Ahmadiyah faces possible ban from Indonesia - 03 May 2008

Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports on a religious group in Indonesia that has been the target of violent attacks and now faces being banned from the country.

The Ahmadiyah claims to be an off-shoot of Islam, but a government inquiry has declared them a "deviant" group, and says their beliefs have caused unrest.

The train that keeps Mauritania connected - 19 April 08

The West African country of Mauritania is host to one of the longest trains in the world.

The train is mainly used to transport iron ore from the mines to ports on the Atlantic Ocean, but it also provides a lifeline for many Mauritanians who live deep in the Sahara desert.

Israel "to remove" some West Bank checkpoints - 30 Mar 08

Israel has agreed to remove about 50 of its more than 500 checkpoints in the occupied West Bank - a move it says is designed to help the Palestinian economy.

The announcement came on what Palestinians call Land Day, an annual day of protest triggered by the deaths of six Arabs during a demonstration in 1976.
