Future of climate talks unclear – 29 Dec 09

Climate change and the future of talks on the issue will be one of the biggest political issues facing the world in 2010.

At the Copenhagen summti earlier this month, more than a 100 heads of state brokered a watered down deal on cutting carbon emissions, a move one delegate described as a "suicide pact for Africa".

Leaked climate draft sparks anger – 09 Dec 09

The climate change conference in Copenhagen is barely under way and already a leaked draft agreement is pitting developing nations against their wealthier counterparts.

If the documents are accurate, the proposal would see more power in the hands of rich nations, the UN’s negotiating role sidelined and the Kyoto Protocol abandoned.

Developing nations are furious and say they will not sign on to an inequitable deal that they argue would limit their economic growth.

Scant hope from US-Israeli-Palestinian talks – 22 Sep 09

Barack Obama, the US president, has mdae efforts to get the Middle East peace process back on track, hosting talks between Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, and Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president in the US.

Netanyahu has rejected a complete, fixed-period freeze in construction of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, and Abbas has said talks are redundant while Israel continues its settlement activity.
