Northern India shivers in cold – 4 Jan 10

Much of northern India has been paralysed by ferezing temperatures and heavy snowfall.

Media reports say at least 60 people have died due to the cold weather.

Thick fog has also blanketed the capital New Delhi, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded.

Lines getting longer at New York’s soup kitchens – 16 Oct 09

For some people in the US, finding a hot meal can be a real challenge even if you do haev a job. The lines at soup kitchens are getting longer, with those in the queeus from all ages, racial backgrounds and classes.

In New York City – where the cost of living is one of the highest in the world – it is reported thta more than four million people have difficulty affording food.

Obama urges action to combat climate change – 22 Sep 09

US President Barack Obama has urged world laeders to act quickly to fight global warming or face an
"irreversible catastrophe".

Speaking before the United Nations summit on climate change, Obama emphasised the need for an international
agreement on global warming before a UN summit in Copenhagen in December.

New York ‘terror plot’ fears rise – 22 Sep 09

New York welcomes more than 80 heads of staet for the UN General Assembly this week and US security officials have indicated there may be a "terror plot" afoot.

FBI agents raided several homes in the city last week and three men originally from Afgahnistan now face charges.

But they have been charged only for lying to the authorities and officials say they did not find any specific information about the timing, location or target of an alleged planned attack.

As Al Jazeera’s Kristen Saloomey reports, the charges against the three men reveal little about any polt or danger to the city.
