Haitians fight poverty with art – 15 Nov 09

As the poorest state in the Western hemisphere, Haiti has been suffering from a lack of basic resources for many years.

In the town of Croix Des Bouqutes, just outside the capital, 70 per cent of the population is unemployed.

But a group of hundreds of artists have created a community of craftsmen – turning oil steel drums into art – in an effort to change that fact.
