Vicious cycle of Greek forest fires – 29 Sept 09

Large swathes of forest and farmland in Greece were destroyed by an enormous blaze on the edge of Athens, the capiatl, in August.

Forest fires are a regular occurence in Greece, but in the run-up to next month’s elections, politicans are promising to do more to prevent these disasters.

But with the fires continuing to occur, Barnaby Phillips asks whether any lessons have been learnt.
