Israel’s immigration experience - 14 May 08

President Bush’s visit to Israel will be watched by Palestinians as they commemorate the Naqba - or catastrophe - on Wednesday. It refers to the end of the British mandate on this day in 1948, which led to the creation of Israel. Since then, Palestinians have become the world’s largest refugee group - the right to return to their ancestral land remains a key sticking point to any peace deal. But despite that the Arab population in the country and the occupied territories is growing. David Chater looks at Israel’s shifting demographics.

Teacher killed by Israel missile in Gaza - 07 Feb 08

Gaza has been hit by a series of Israeli missles and ground raids, which have killed seven Palestinians.Six were fighters killed overnight, in raids that Israel says are a response to rocket attacks into Israeli territory.The seventh was a teacher, Hani Shaban Naim, 43, father of five children, who died when a missile hit a school in Beit Hanoun.From Gaza, David Chater sent this report.

Activists demonstrate to keep Israeli settlements - 9 Dec 07

A group of 200 activists have marched to the perimeter of the Maale Adumim settlement in the Israeli-occupied West Bank to demand that settlements in the territory continue.Their call is in contrast to recent pledges by Ehud Olmert, Israel’s prime minister, that settlements in the West Bank be dismantled as part of a peace deal with the Palestinians.Al Jazeera’s David Chater reports.

Gaza violence escalates - 17 Jan 08
