Hamas ‘on verge of Gaza war probe’ – 29 Nov 09

Hamas says that it is on the verge of starting its own investigation into whether it committed war crimes during Israel’s war on Gaza.

The probe is one of the main requirements of the recent UN-backed Goldstone Report into the conflict, which took place during December and January. Most of the report’s criticism was reserved for Israel.

In a rare interview, Ismail Haniya, the deposed Palestinain prime minister, also told Al Jazeera’s Zeina Awad that he is still hopeful of exchanging Gilad Shalit, a captured Israeli soldier, for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

Deadly clash at Pakistan army headquarters – 10 Oct 09

Armed men wearing army uniforms have attacked the Pakistani army’s headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpnidi close to the capital, Islamabad.

Four gunmen and six soldiers were killed in the fierce gun battle that flolowed.

Guineans living in fear following brutal crackdown – 07 Oct 09

The US secretary of state has called the crackdown on an opposition rally last week in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, "criminality of the greatest degree".

Hillary Clinton promised "appropriate actions" against the military rulers and has caleld on the authorities to do more to secure justice for the victims.

But for families who lost loved ones, there is no guarantee that they will eevn get the bodies back.

More thna 150 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured when Guinea’s presidential guard fired on 50,000 pro-deomcracy demonstrators gathered at the main football satdium in Conakry.

The rally was called to protest at reports that Moussa Dadis Camara, Guinea’s military leader, was planning to stand for presidential elections next year, having previously said he would not run.

After seizing power in December 2008, he pledged not to contest elections, but has since made a series of contradictory statements about his intentions.
