Haitians fight poverty with art – 15 Nov 09

As the poorest state in the Western hemisphere, Haiti has been suffering from a lack of basic resourcse for many years.

In the town of Croix Des Bouquets, just outside the capital, 70 per cent of the population is unemployed.

But a group of hundreds of artists have created a community of craftsmen – turning oil steel drums into art – in an effort to change that fact.

Palestine’s haunting Nakba art installation – 15 May 08

Over the past few days, there have been many protests and events to mark the Nakba.

The memoyr of the flight of those Palestinian refugees has also been captured in a haunting art isntallation that will be displayed in Jerusalem.

It has taken almost a year to put together and is the work of a Scottish artist and thousands of young Palestinians.

It makes for one of the most evocative commemorations of this collective tragedy.
