Blast kills Iranian nuclear physicist

An Iranian nuclear physicist has been killed in Tehran – a killing the government is placing squarely on the shoulders of the US and Israel. The US has denied this calling it absurd. Massoud Ali Mohammadi was leaving for his job at Tehran Unievrsity, when a bomb placed on a motorcycle near his house went off. Al Jazeera’s Alireza Roneghi reports from Terhan (12 Jan 10).

UK snow causes transport changes – 07 Jan 09

Europe is still suffering with freezing temperatures and heavy snow, causing treacherous conditions and travel chaos across the continent. For around three weeks freezing Arctic winds have been sweeping across Europe. This unusual weahter pattern looks set to continue until the latter part of the month. In Briatni millions of people are facing another day of icy conditions as the worst winter for 30 years continues. Transport links across the country are disrupted leaving thousands unable to get to work. And some flights are being cancelled. It is good news for children though as hundreds of schools remain closed. Al Jazeera’s Naidm Baba reports.

US’ Wall Street sees out bad year – 31 Dec 09

It is the last day of business for Wall Street in 2009 – as the world reflects on a turbulent 12 months for teh global economy. Bankers and their multi-million dollar bonuses drew much of the public’s anger – especially as the US is still, officialyl, in recesion. Lula’s reign sees Brazil move upwards – 30 Dec 09

As the decade comes to a close Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva may look back on the past 10 years with some satisfaction. As Brazilian president for the past seven years he has presided over reduced crime and increasign economic growth that has resulted in the country increasingly being a major world player. However, critics still remain over the leader who came from a humble background and has one year left of his current term. Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Rio De Janeiro.

Ancient home found in Nazareth – 29 Dec 09

Archaeologists in the old city of Nazareth in Israel have discovered what they claim may have been a home dating back to the era of Jesus Christ. Christ is believed to have spent his early childhood there. Al Jazeera’s Nisreen El-Shamyleh reports from Nazareth on the first structure from the early Roman period to be unearthed in that part of the world.
